FIELD NOTES

Clear thinking.
Useful next steps.

Start with the questions that make your plan better.

01

Start with tasks,
not equipment.

Write down what your household needs to do: receive updates, contact each other and find essential items. Then list what you already own.

Read the field note

Give each task a person responsible. Find the relevant instructions, check where equipment is kept and identify the questions you need answered before buying anything. A clear inventory is a useful first result.

02

Compare the complete
setup.

A product’s headline specification is only part of the decision. Check compatibility, included accessories and the manufacturer’s limitations.

Read the field note

Record the exact model, intended use, warranty and any accessories you would need. Compare total costs for the same task. A manufacturer specification is a claim from the manufacturer, not a measurement by us.

Never assume a backup-power product is suitable for a medical device or household wiring. Those questions require device-specific professional guidance.

03

Make the plan
easy to find.

A plan helps only if the people who need it can access it. Keep a printable version and give each person one clear next step.

Read the field note

Agree on where household information is kept and choose a date to review it. Keep sensitive contact and care details private. Use the worksheet to organize questions; follow current official local instructions during an emergency.

HOW WE WORK

Useful information.
Honest limitations.

Tools to Advance is starting with practical planning resources. Future buying guides will identify their sources, distinguish specifications from measurements, and disclose commercial relationships. We won’t claim hands-on testing we haven’t done.
